When you move into your new home, it is important you find out where the following are located:
- Main gas on/off lever (if your home has gas)
- Main water stop cock
- Electricity fuse box.
If you have an emergency affecting your water, gas or electricity supplies, please follow this advice:
Gas – If you smell gas, phone National Grid Gas (this used to be called Transco) free on 0800 111 999 and then phone us on 01284 767224.
Do not use any gas appliances or electrical switches or light any flame.
Do put out any flames if it’s safe to do so, open doors and windows, keep people away from the area and turn the gas off at the control valve.
Water – If you have a burst pipe or your water supply has been cut off, phone us on 01284 767224 immediately. If possible, please turn off the stopcock.
Electricity – If you receive an electric shock from any fitting in your home, phone us on 01284 767224 immediately. If your electricity supply isn’t working, first check the fuse board and reset the trip switches. Also, make sure that you have credit on your prepayment meter (if you have one) and check with your neighbours to see if they have the same problem. If they do, contact your electricity supplier.
