Carole Taylor-Brown

Carole joined the board as chair in...

Carole joined the board as chair in 2016 after serving as the independent chair of our audit committee for the past three years. Carole runs a consultancy and provides coaching to senior leaders, as well as support with sensitive mediations and investigations. Prior to setting up her business, Carole spent 35 years in the public sector, working in senior positions in local government and as a chief executive in the NHS, where she led financial recovery and service improvements across Suffolk.

Adrian Barber

Adrian joined Suffolk Housing in August...

Adrian joined Suffolk Housing in August 2018 after spending 13 years specialising in consultancy work and fulfilling interim senior manager roles. He brings with him 30 years’ experience in the housing industry, having begun his career as a housing officer in Kent before fulfilling a variety of senior roles in the south east. Adrian became a consultant and interim in 2005 and has since worked with a wide range of organisations across the country, most recently with Trivallis, in Wales, where he was a director before becoming interim chief executive. Adrian is passionate about listening to residents and finding innovative ways to use technology to improve services.

Matthew Peak joined the board in 2017. He has extensive experience in the housing sector, after working with three different housing associations. Matthew is also currently director of finance with Hanover Housing, which provides 19,000 specialist retirement properties across the country. Matthew is also a governor at an infant school in Cambridgeshire.

Martin Royal joined the board in 2017 after spending a career spanning 18 years in the Army and 22 years in the NHS with a back ground in managing Mental Health services, latterly specialising in property management, having been the Regional Director of NHS Property Services for the Midlands & East area. He is currently working as a contractor on a range of projects throughout the East of England.

Is the proprietor of Stephen Cook Consulting, which he set up after stepping down as Chief Executive of The Havebury Housing Partnership in 2010. He has 50 years experience in the management and development of affordable housing together with homelessness services and until recently was Chair of Emmaus Cambridge where he continues to serve on the board of trustees He is now also a member of the board of Emmaus Suffolk whilst also Chairing the Audit Risk & Governance Committee and the Financial Resilience Task Group for Emmaus UK. He also holds a non-executive directorship at Foundation East in addition to Suffolk Housing Society and undertakes work for the Coram Cambridgeshire Adoption Service. Prior to his role at Havebury he held a number of senior posts in Local Government and served as a Principle Policy Advisor to the Local Government Association and as a member of the Chartered Institute of Housing’s National Council. He was also a Governor at West Suffolk College, an External Examiner at Anglia Ruskin University and a trustee of Workwise a mental health charity.

Ian also sits on the board of Peterborough Regional College as Vice Chair.

Prior to his portfolio career Neville was a Human Resources Director with a variety of private and public employers. His final HRD role was with Hyde Housing a large London housing association. All of these organisations were sector leaders and award winners. Neville has full Chartered Director status (CDir) having passed a series of examinations with the Institute of Directors. His professional qualifications led to him becoming both a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and he is an accredited executive coach.

Glen is a fellow of the Intitute of Chartered Accountants, having qualified with auditors, accountants and business consultants PriceWaterhouse where he audited and advised clients in a number of sectors such as Barclays, Mirror Goup (post Maxwell), Fosters/Courage, Agip, Pitney Bowes, Louis Dreyfusand Duchy of Cornwall. Glen then worked at media and manufacturing/service groups Carlton Communications and ITV, both FTSE 100 groups, advising on mergers and acquisitions and tax. Currently , Glen works at Swan Housing where he has undertaken company secretarial, governance and compliance roles and continues to be responsible for tax matters and other financial matters. Glen also is a governor at an academy school.

Rachael Orr

Rachael is the Director of...

Rachael is the Director of PlaceShapers, the network for 120 community-based housing associations. She leads the strategy and direction for the organisation, delivering member services, policy and campaigns with members. Previously, Rachael was Head of Oxfam's UK programme, leading Oxfam's advocacy, campaigning and programme work on UK poverty. She led a team delivering programmes supporting women to move into work and challenging poverty and inequality. Rachael joined Oxfam from Shelter, where she held various senior policy and campaigning roles. She ran regional and national campaigns on housing, welfare reform and wider UK poverty issues. Before Shelter, Rachael worked as a support worker and in hostels for homeless people. Rachael served for seven years as chair of Angel Shed Theatre Company, an inclusive theatre charity in Islington. She has also volunteered with Help Refugees and is involved in local campaigns in her community.
