Housing benefit

Housing Benefit exists to help people on a low income to pay all or some of their rent. If you think you may be entitled to Housing Benefit, you will need to complete a form which you can get from your local council. Please contact us if you would like some help in making your claim.

The council should process your claim within two weeks; if it is any longer you should contact the Housing Benefit office to ensure they have all the information they need.

Housing Benefit is only paid from the date you move in to your home so you must make your claim as soon as possible. If your Housing Benefit payment doesn’t cover the full cost of your rent, you will need to make up the difference.

If you are awarded housing benefit, you can ask for the payment to be made directly to us on your behalf.

When you submit a claim or provide any other supporting information, we recommend that you get a receipt as evidence.
