How to apply for a home

There are three ways of applying for a home.

1
If you live in the South Cambs sub region - St Edmundsbury, Forest Heath, Cambridge - you should register with Home-Link.

Home-Link is the new way of accessing Council and Housing Association properties across the Cambrige sub-region. From February 2008, available properties will be advertised every fortnight on the website and in a property magazine distributed across the sub-region. Applicants are asked to say which properties they are interested in (known as making a bid). The property will usually be let to the applicant who has been in the highest housing need for the longest time and who meets the advertising criteria. For more information please visit the website www.home-link.org.uk or contact your local Council or Housing Association.

2

You may contact the local authority in whose area you wish to live. Local authorities have nomination rights to some Society properties including some of the new properties developed in partnership agreements.

The Society can also offer advice and assistance to those in housing need.

3

Contacting the Society direct. A short assessment of your housing situation will be made and if the relevant priority is met you will be sent an application form. Waiting list allocation is made in date order.

You should note that if you require accommodation in either the St Edmundsbury or Babergh District Council area you should apply directly to them as a common housing register is in operation in those districts.

The exceptions to this rule are as follows:

a) if you are currently a tenant of the Society
b) if you require elderly or special needs accommodation
c) if you require a property in a village location

In these exceptions advice and assistance will be given.

Please note that applications from people under 18 years of age will not normally be considered.

The Society's decisions are guided by its Lettings policy, a copy of which can be obtained from our offices.
