1. JCB wheeled digger reduces levels, scraping off an area of wet clay enabling the engineer to set out the excavations

 

2. Plot pegged out ready for excavation

   
 

3. Excavated soil is put to one side or loaded into the dumper, then tipped onto the spoil heap and later carted to the landfill site. At regular intervals the trenches are checked

 

4. The operatives shovel the limecrete in place, bed bricks in it and then spread more limecrete

   
 

5. When the laying is completed the limecrete is floated and brick course steps are introduced to economise on materials

 

6. Hydrated hydraulic lime is used instead of cement

   
 

7. Footings are cleaned and levels related to adjacent houses

 

8. A brick plinth is built in steps and staggers with frost resistant bricks below ground and facings above
