1. JCB wheeled digger reduces levels, scraping off
an area of wet clay enabling the engineer to set out
the excavations

2. Plot pegged out ready for excavation

3. Excavated soil is put to one side or loaded into
the dumper, then tipped onto the spoil heap and later
carted to the landfill site. At regular intervals the
trenches are checked

4. The operatives shovel the limecrete in place, bed
bricks in it and then spread more limecrete

and brick course steps are introduced to economise on
