Arrears Recovery

Rent arrears is a serious business
and people do lose their homes
for not paying their rent.

The Society adopts a firm but fair policy with regard to recovering rent arrears.

We recognise that many of our tenants are on low wages and others are dependent on welfare benefits to make up part of their weekly income.

If tenants are experiencing or anticipating having difficulty in paying rent it is essential that they contact us as soon as possible. We can offer advice and assistance in such circumstances. We would much rather that people contact us so that an amicable arrangement can be made.

If there has not been prior arrangement, we have the following procedure to recover rent.

  • A reminder letter as soon as a payment is missed.
  • We will try and see people face to face, either in the office or in their own home.
  • If two months pass without rent being paid, we issue a Notice of Seeking Possession which is the first step in the legal procedure that may ultimately lead to the loss of the tenant's home.
